Here at Outlier we are very excited to share with you our new competition series. Competition is one of the things that makes CrossFit so much fun. On a daily basis we show up to classes to push ourselves and our friends to see what we are capable of. Every so often we like to go outside our familiar walls of our home gym and compete with people we don’t normally see and put ourselves in a performance position. Local competitions are a place for people to see how they stack up against the rest as well as a great place to have fun with new and old friends.

Here at Outlier CrossFit we are rolling out a four part competition series that we feel many CrossFitters will be very excited to be a part of. Our focus is to provide a competition experience like nothing else offered in San Diego. The competitions will be fueled by programming that is fresh and different from the current offerings. From new formats to movements and equipment not typically seen. Every competitor will have more than ample action time to feel like they got their money’s worth. All events are going to be team events offered in the following format with a scaled format and a RX division: 1 Male/1 Female, 1 Female/1 Female (NO RX CATEGORY AVAILABLE FOR THIS DIVISON), 1 Male/1 Male.

There is a feature of the coming events that we are excited to announce. When a team competes in one event. Those points will carry through to the future events and add up at the end of the series to help us place winners in the final championship round where cash prizes and trophies will be given out to the best performing teams throughout the year. We are confident that after the dust has settled from the first comp that many of you will be excited to take part in the next one. We will offer half off entries to the winners along with other prizes for each competition. So lets start going over the details!

Our first part of our series kicked off with our Halloween Throwdown on October 29th, followed by our Swolemate Showdown in February 11th, 2017, our Summer Smackdown on May 20th, 2017, and we will end the series with the Best Coast Invitational on August 19th, 2017.

We will be offering a scaled division along with a RX division for every competition for each partner combination with the exception of the female/female RX division so we will have 5 different options offered to compete in. The price for the competition is $69 per person if you sign up by midnight on Sunday, January 1st, 2017 (ENTER CODE SWOLEMATE2017 FOR $10 EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNT). After this date the price goes up to $79 per person. The price includes a shirt. Spectators are welcome at no cost.

* 1 partner works at a time, every time a partner removes their hands from the bar and/or you trade with your partner you both must complete 5 burpees for scaled/10 burpees for RX in unison before you can pick the barbell up again. 5 minute time cap

Thrusters (RX 155/105) (Scaled – 95/65)

Pull Ups (Chest to Bar for RX)

* 1 partner works at a time, each partner must complete 1 thruster and 1 pull up. 5 minute time cap

– This WOD is worth 4 scores, 1 score for each Part and then your total time for all 3 WODs added up. Everyone will start each part together at the 5 minute mark.

WOD #2: “Heartbreaker Complex”

8 Minute Time Cap for each partner to max out the following complex:

2 Deadlifts, 2 Hang Power Cleans, 2 Front Squats, & 1 Jerk

*You will have 8 minutes for you and your partner to complete the complex for your max weight you are able to complete.

WOD #3: “Seal the Deal”

AMRAP in 15 minutes of:

250 Meter Row

75 Doubleunders for RX and 150 Singleunders for Scaled

50 American Kettlebell Swings (RX – 70/53 and Scaled – 53/35)

25 Wall Balls (RX – 30/20 and Scaled – 20/14)

20 Calories on the Air Dyne

– For the remaining time complete as many burpees as you can jumping over the rower, 1 partner works at a time but alternate as much as possible.
